Ingrain is a photographic ode to the uncertainties and beauty of self-discovery, in the process of coming out to oneself.
Realising a desire to see myself represented in history, I looked to the queer non-conforming artists of local Cornish history, whose LGBTQ+ identities have been retrospectively added to art history. I became fascinated by the art and lives of artists such as Ithell Colquhoun and Marlow Moss, and my introspection unfolded in the Cornish landscape.
Contemplation and the passing of time forefront this work, which plays against the fast-paced nature of a society that often pushes us to label ourselves. I intentionally slow things down, encouraging an open and reflective space for all to consider their own embedded beliefs. My aim is not to be accepted into the ordinary, but instead to question its believed centrality.
